Located on a little promenade off the main road in Cromford and set in the wonderful grey stone of the Peak District. Scarthin books is a lovely crumble-down place (see it’s recent crowdfunding success http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-32301011 ) with endless nooks and crannies, floor to ceiling book cases and a mix of secondhand and new books. Does it serve coffee? Yes, and cake and other goodies. For those, in love with secret doors and hidden rooms, I don’t want to spoil the delight of discovering for the first time where the cafe is hidden.
At Scarthin, I always come away with some purchase or other. They also have a nice little gift shop so it’s impossible not to buy something. Notable purchase was a book on cool campsites. Well we were in the Peak District after all.
Is Scarthin books a bookshop run by bookish people for people who love books?
Of course!
