The original and the most wonderful

Visited: January 2012

Found on the High Street in Marylebone is the most wonderful bookshop, up there as one of my favourites. In fact it scores highly in most independent bookshop charts too https://www.lonelyplanet.com/travel-tips-and-articles/76233. Daunt Books is a haven from the hustle and bustle of the City. It has five other stores around London but this one is the original store and is a joy to enter.

There’s a huge travel section but also a great fiction and second-hand selection too. It’s the amazing Edwardian setting that just draws you in and makes you want to stay there all day.

It has beautiful bookcases, a gallery and a ground floor of treasures. This is how bookshops should be (forgiven those who do not have the space). It is the place of opportunities, encounters, mysteries and wonders. Am I getting carried away here? Probably.

A must for the book lover

In 2012 it didn’t serve coffee or cake but you can’t have it all. I distinctly remember the very London focused eye-catching fiction display when I entered though and coming away with ‘The Complete Sherlock Holmes’ as we were staying in a hotel on Baker Street at the time. I also still use my souvenir bag. Yes, they got me there at the till.
